About Dr Natalie Montarello
Dr Natalie Montarello is a cardiologist with sub-specialty expertise in advanced heart failure, valvular heart disease, infiltrative cardiomyopathies, and cardiac imaging.
Natalie graduated in medicine from the University of Adelaide and completed her cardiology training at the Royal Adelaide and Queen Elizabeth Hospitals (CALHN).
She subsequently undertook a 12-month advanced heart failure fellowship at the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne, one of Australia’s leading centres for heart transplant and mechanical circulatory support. There, she gained expertise in managing cardiogenic shock, patients with ventricular assist devices, post–heart transplant recipients, and patients with infiltrative cardiomyopathies.
Natalie then completed a 12-month multi-modality cardiac imaging fellowship at the internationally renowned St Thomas’ Hospital and King’s College London, United Kingdom. Here she developed skills in cardiac computed tomography, cardiac magnetic resonance imaging, and transoesophageal echocardiography (TOE). She holds Level III accreditation with the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (SCCT) and accreditation with the Australian & New Zealand Working Group for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (ANZCMR).
Following her fellowship, Natalie worked as a cardiology consultant in valve disease and echocardiography at St Thomas’ and Guy’s Hospitals, London. In this role she managed complex multi-valvular disease and infective endocarditis cases referred from across London, performed and reported advanced echocardiography studies, and led specialist clinics for patients with progressive valvular heart disease.
While she maintains a broad interest in all areas of clinical cardiology, Natalie predominantly sub-specializes in the care of patients with advanced heart failure, integrating her multi-modality imaging expertise.
Natalie holds a staff specialist position at CALHN and consults widely with Advara HeartCare in both city and regional clinics. She performs TOE, right heart catheterization and cardiac biopsies at CALHN, St Andrew’s, and Calvary Adelaide Hospitals.
