About Dr Peter Purnell

Dr Peter Purnell is a Cardiovascular Imaging Specialist. Peter studied medicine in Perth and graduated from UWA in 1990. He completed cardiology training in Perth, Canberra and Geelong before doing a fellowship in echocardiography at Emory University Hospital, Atlanta, Georgia under Professor Randy Martin. 

Peter’s clinical interests are heart failure, coronary disease, valvular heart disease, stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation and cardio-oncology. In 2018 he set up the Advara HeartCare Cardio-Oncology service in WA for medical oncology.

He is a Clinical Trials Researcher actively involved as Principal Investigator in many current trials and is Head of Research Advara HeartCare Cardiology Western Australia and was the founding director of Joondalup Cardiovascular Trials Foundation. 

He performs transoesophageal echocardiography and runs a regular stress echo clinic. 

Peter admits private patients to Joondalup Private Hospital. Peter currently consults at Joondalup.
