Consultant Cardiologist

Dr Suranga Weerasooriya is a CTCA accredited specialist with extensive experience in Cardiac CT imaging (CTCA and CAC). He is part of the Advara HeartCare CTCA team, providing streamlined cardiac care services in Adelaide.

Special clinical interests in heart failure, infective endocarditis, cardiac masses, chest pain management and ischaemia evaluation.


About Dr Suranga Weerasooriya

Dr Suranga Weerasooriya is a senior cardiologist and multimodality cardiac imager with expertise in advanced cardiovascular imaging and complex cardiac assessment. His imaging expertise includes complex transthoracic echocardiography, exercise and dobutamine stress echocardiography, transoesophageal echocardiography, cardiac CT and coronary CT angiography (CTCA), cardiac MRI, nuclear cardiology, and cardiac PET imaging.

Dr Weerasooriya completed CTCA training at St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney and has held Level A CTCA accreditation since 2015. He further advanced his cardiac MRI expertise through fellowship training at University College London and Barts Heart Centre, United Kingdom, and holds Fellowship of the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (FSCMR).

He holds MBBS, MSc, FRACP and FAANMS qualifications and maintains professional memberships with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP), Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSANZ), Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (SCMR), Australasian Association of Nuclear Medicine Specialists (AANMS), and Australian and New Zealand Society of Nuclear Medicine (ANZSNM).

Dr Weerasooriya is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Adelaide and previously held a Senior Lecturer appointment within the College of Medicine and Dentistry at James Cook University. He also served as Clinical Lead for Heart Failure at Townsville University Hospital.

Dr Weerasooriya is fluent in English and Sinhalese.

Dr Weerasooriya is committed to delivering evidence-based, patient-centred cardiovascular care with a strong emphasis on advanced imaging to guide diagnosis and treatment.
