About Prof. Graham Hillis
Professor Graham Hillis is head of cardiology at Royal Perth Hospital and clinical professor of medicine at the University of Western Australia. He graduated in medicine from the University of Aberdeen, where he also completed a PhD, and went on to train in cardiology in Edinburgh and the USA, including a fellowship at the Mayo Clinic. In 2002 he was appointed as a consultant cardiologist at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary before moving to Sydney in 2008, where he held senior clinical and research roles, including senior staff specialist at Concord Hospital and director of the cardiovascular division at the George Institute for Global Health. He moved to his current role in 2015 and from 2017–2020, he was director of research for WA Health’s East Metropolitan Health Service.
With over 25 years of clinical cardiology experience, Professor Hillis is an expert in cardiovascular clinical research and trials. He currently serves on the scientific committee of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand and, until recently, chaired their clinical trials committee. He leads several large clinical trials, including the multinational Early Valve Replacement in Asymptomatic Aortic Stenosis (EASY-AS) trial. He has published more than 250 scientific papers in leading medical journals, and has received several honours, including a WA Health Research Excellence Award and two Heart Foundation Ross Hohnen Prizes for Research Excellence.
