Do I need a GP referral to make an appointment?

Yes. To make an appointment for a test, you will require a referral from your GP or specialist.

What’s the referral process?

If you are experiencing symptoms or concerned about your heart health, you will need to first make an appointment to visit your GP. Your GP will assess your symptoms and recommend the appropriate tests. If your GP refers you for a cardiac test, you can phone your nearest Advara HeartCare centre to make an appointment. The team may request that you provide a copy of your referral in advance, or that you simply bring it on the day. Note: if you are experiencing chest pain, feeling unwell or have any other symptoms that are concerning you, please call 000.

What do I need for a heart test?

To have a heart test at Advara HeartCare, you will need a referral from your doctor or specialist. Depending on the type of test you have been referred for, there may be minimal preparation, or no preparation required at all.

How long does a heart test take?

The appointment length depends on the type of cardiac test you have been referred for. Some tests can be completed relatively quickly, while others may take longer or involve monitoring over several hours or days. Your Advara HeartCare centre can advise how much time to allow when your appointment is booked.

When will I receive my heart test results?

Your test results are reviewed and reported by the appropriate cardiac specialist. The report is generally sent to the doctor or specialist who referred you, who can then discuss the findings and any recommended next steps with you. The timing may vary depending on the type of test performed.
