About Dr Hermann Wittmer

Dr Hermann Wittmer is a Cardiovascular Imaging Specialist. He was born in Cape Town in 1958 and received his MBBCh at the University of the Witwatersrand in 1981. While in the army as a medical officer he obtained his diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1984. Dr Wittmer went on to do his physician training in 1985 and obtained his FCP(SA) in 1988 from Wits University. He was also, in that year, awarded the Jock Gear Award for having contributed the most to the welfare of patients, Hospital and Department Medicine at Wits University. 

Dr Wittmer completed his cardiology training at Wits University under the guidance of Prof John Barlow of Barlow Syndrome fame. During this time, he became proficient as an interventional, non-invasive and clinical cardiologist. In 1991, he moved into private practice in Johannesburg before immigrating to Australia in 2009 when he joined Advara HeartCare. In 2011 he was awarded the FRACP. 

Dr Wittmer’s current fields of interest include non-invasive testing, heart failure and cardiac rehabilitation. He is also the Chairperson of the Cardiac Rehab program, HeartStart in Bundaberg.
