About Dr Peter Illes

Dr Peter Illes is an Interventional Cardiologist with a specific interest in devices for heart failure.

Dr Illes graduated in Johannesburg, South Africa in 1980, and trained in internal medicine at the University of Capetown from 1990 to 1993. He attended the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne where he completed his cardiology training as the Senior Registrar to Professor RWFC Campbell, the president of the British Heart Foundation. He gained experience in coronary interventions, cardiac pacing, defibrillator implants and electrophysiology.

He pioneered cardiac resynchronisation therapy in Australia, was the first implanter of leadless pacemakers in Sydney and has been engaged to train other physicians in this technology. He is also the Principle Investigator in a number of other device trials in Australia.

He is currently the director of the Coronary Care Unit at the Sydney Adventist Hospital. He is also a consultant cardiologist at the Northern Beaches Hospital (NBH) and currently on the acute interventional roster for myocardial infarction at NBH.
