About A/Prof Zahra Alizadeh Sani
Associate Professor Zahra Alizadeh Sani is a Consultant Cardiologist and Advanced Cardiovascular Imaging Specialist with extensive expertise in multimodality cardiovascular imaging, preventive cardiology, and Women’s Cardiovascular Medicine. Her clinical interests encompass coronary artery disease, hypertension, heart failure, cardiac arrhythmias, valvular heart disease, structural heart disease, and advanced cardiac imaging. She is committed to delivering compassionate, evidence-based cardiovascular care by integrating state-of-the-art imaging technologies, artificial intelligence, and personalised clinical decision-making to improve patient outcomes and advance precision cardiovascular medicine.
Dr Alizadeh Sani has demonstrated outstanding academic excellence throughout her medical career, achieving top-ranked distinction in the Iranian National University Entrance Examination, Cardiology Registrar training, the Iranian National Board Examination in Cardiology, and her Advanced Echocardiography Fellowship at one of Iran’s leading tertiary cardiovascular referral and research centres.
She subsequently completed advanced international training and certification in Cardiac CT Coronary Angiography (CTCA) and Cardiac Magnetic Resonance (CMR) at internationally recognised cardiovascular centres across Europe, the United Kingdom, and the United States, establishing expertise in advanced multimodality cardiovascular imaging.
She is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) and practises as a Consultant Cardiologist in Melbourne, Australia. Her practice focuses on comprehensive cardiovascular assessment, advanced multimodality cardiac imaging, preventive cardiology, Women’s Heart Health, and the evidence-based management of complex cardiovascular disease.
Alongside her clinical practice, Dr Alizadeh Sani has built a distinguished academic and educational career. She previously served as Associate Professor of Cardiovascular Imaging at Iran University of Medical Sciences and also held an Adjunct Professor appointment at one of Iran’s leading engineering and technology universities. Her academic work has focused on cardiovascular imaging, artificial intelligence, precision medicine, and the translation of emerging technologies into clinical practice.
As one of the pioneers of Cardiac Magnetic Resonance (CMR) and advanced cardiovascular imaging in Iran, she played a key role in establishing and developing CMR services and advanced cardiovascular imaging programs across multiple tertiary referral centres. She currently serves as Head of Cardiac Magnetic Resonance at one of Iran’s leading tertiary CMR referral centres, where she combines clinical leadership with education, research, and service development.
Beyond her clinical and academic appointments, Dr Alizadeh Sani has made substantial contributions to cardiovascular education and professional leadership. She founded the Iranian Cardiovascular Imaging Association and served as the principal architect of Iran’s national Cardiovascular Imaging Fellowship curriculum, helping establish a structured national framework for advanced cardiovascular imaging education. She also served for approximately eight years as an Inspector (Auditor) of the Iranian Society of Cardiology.
Internationally, she serves as Chair of the Cardiac MRI Study Group and Executive Committee Member of the Iranian Chapter of the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM). She previously served on the Executive Committee of the Asian Society of Cardiovascular Imaging (ASCI), contributing to regional collaboration and the advancement of cardiovascular imaging across Asia.
Dr Alizadeh Sani is the author of two postgraduate Persian-language reference textbooks in cardiovascular imaging, both widely recognised as standard educational resources for cardiology fellowship training in Iran. She has also served as a scientific reviewer and Persian-language translator of selected Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (SCMR) guideline and educational documents, contributing to the dissemination of international CMR standards among Persian-speaking cardiologists and cardiovascular imaging specialists. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed scientific publications and continues to contribute actively to cardiovascular research, medical education, and international scientific collaboration.
Her contributions have been recognised through numerous national and international honours, including the Best Case Presentation Award at the EuroCMR Congress (Vienna, 2014), the Gold Medal and Women Inventor Award at the International Exhibition of Inventions in Geneva, and a United States Patent in cardiovascular diagnostics and medical innovation. Her international achievements have also been recognised through selection under Australia’s Global Talent Independent Program and approval of the United States EB-2 National Interest Waiver (NIW).
